Board Chair

Brenda Gourley
Dr. Gourley was Vice Chancellor of University of KwazeZulu, Natal, South Africa, (first woman to lead a South African university), then Vice Chancellor of The Open University in England, and subsequently Chair of the Association of Open Universities. She is a chartered accountant and is a citizen of South Africa.

Governors

Isaac Bekalo
Dr. Bekalo is the President of the International Institute for Rural Reconstruction. He has over 25 years in community and organizational development all over the world. Dr. Bekalo hails from Ethiopia and resides in Kenya.

Ronald Carrier
Dr. Carrier, currently Chancellor of James Madison University and an economist by training, has a distinguished career building public higher education in Tennessee and Virginia. For 27 years he was president of James Madison University, overseeing the growth of this institution from being a college with an enrollment of 4,000 students to university status with 14,000 students, and repositioning it with national rankings and new academic programs.

Kul C. Gautam
Mr. Gautam is currently Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Nepal. Previously, he was Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF. He was Coordinator of the 1990 World Summit for Children. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College, with graduate studies at Princeton University. He resides in Nepal.

Nafis Sadik
Dr. Sadik is currently Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations. From 1987 to 2000 she was Executive Director of the UNFPA, the first woman to lead a major U.N. organization. She graduate of Dow Medical College, Pakistan, and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, USA.

Susan Stroud
Ms. Stroud is the founder and Executive Director of Innovations in Civic Participation. She was the co-founder of the Talloires Network, a network of universities commited to education with a focus on civic engagement and social responsibility. Ms. Stroud was also part of the team that launched AmeriCorps.

Daniel C. Taylor
Dr. Taylor sits ex-offico as a voting board member in his capacity as President and Chief Executive Officer. He founded the seven Future Generations organizations, including the accredited Future Generations Graduate School. Previously, he was President of The Mountain Institute. He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and Harvard University.
